My sassy sis is in town and I am having so much fun spending any ounce of free time with her. Last night as soon as the rain stopped we escaped the indoors and headed out to play with the kids. I wanted to take her to Gardner Village to wander through the cute ambiance of the shops and to see Down To Earth- their furniture shop- which I love. And believe it or not she had never been there.
The kids were having fun seeing the animals and teasing the ducks. Then there is the water. Oh that pond. Just before we were about to herd the kids back to their safe little strollers Noah took off running and started to cross the bridge. My parental instinct knew something was up and I chased after him. As soon as he set foot on the grass he looked back and me and grinned with the devil in his eye. He headed down the grass and stood on the ledge looking at the pond. At that point I was turning the corner from the bridge to the grass and didn't see the events that occurred next but heard a splash. That's right. My kid was in the freaking water!! According to my sister, on the other side of the pond, claims he JUMPED in- didn't fall in. So as I headed down the hill to rescue him he was doing a little doggy paddle sans his floaties, swim trunks, and pool toys. He was whining a little, I think he was surprised to find that the water stunk like dead fish and wasn't heated to a comfortable 86 degrees. I have to admit I was actually little impressed he was afloat and swimming- the very top of his head didn't even get wet. Unfortunately he was far enough out I wasn't be able to reach him...and he was starting to freak out...so there I was...jumping in the pond after him. The water was up to my hips and the rocks beneath my feet were slimy. I grabbed my little Nemo and luckily by then Gabe was there and ready for the handoff. While I climbed out she stripped Noah of his cold wet clothes to get him into the extra sweatshirts we brought. Our night was pretty much over as we, er, I sloshed back to the car. So that was our crazy little adventure. I am hoping tonight we can do something a little more low key and with less water.
